Monkey Wrench

Money Wrench is yet another variation of the Nine Patch and Shoo Fly blocks. It is a beautifully simple block with several variations bearing the same name. This is sometimes called Churn Dash. The centre block can be made with a third fabric of similar value. Use the Nine Patch assembly method to put the block together. Mirror and negative images are very effective with this block when you are using it for an entire quilt.

Use the Table on the Half Square Triangle instructions to determine the cutting dimensions for the corner squares. You want a 4″ finished square.  Watch the video for a quick, easy and accurate way to make the HST squares.

To create the middle border squares cut 2-1/2″ by 4-1/2″ rectangles of both fabrics and assemble them to form the squares.

Then assemble the squares using the same 9 patch block method:
